On February 28, 1947, a crackdown became a massacre.
In this episode, I unpack the background after WWII, the uprising, and the violent repression that followed. Why were Taiwanese — socially and economically more modernized during 1945  — suddenly treated as second-class citizens under the KMT? How did corruption, cultural suppression, and political purges ignite tragedy?
The 228 Incident is not only Taiwan’s history. It reminds us that democracy is fragile — and worth protecting. It also shows that even after tragedy, people can rise to build a freer, fairer society.

In the second episode with Uyen Phuong, we focus on what comes after the move: building community, truly integrating, and finding a sense of belonging.
Uyen opens up about how hard it can be to make real connections abroad, especially after living in so many different countries. We talk about identity, language, and why integration goes far beyond visas and addresses.
She also shares why she’s now trying comedy—using humor as a way to connect, express herself, and finally put down roots in the Netherlands.
Honest, vulnerable, and inspiring, this episode is for anyone navigating expat life, community building, or starting something new later in life.
Uyen also shares with us the word "Thương", care for family and friends, the sincere and authentic feelings for people around you.

Taiwan, a name China hates you mentioning — but the world can’t live without.
When I say I’m from Taiwan, the next question is almost always the same: “Is Taiwan part of China?”
This episode of Best Case Scenario explains Taiwan’s history, political status, and identity, including colonial rule, the Chinese Civil War, Japanese occupation, and Taiwan’s transition to democracy.
Through personal perspective and historical context, the episode explores why Taiwan is not governed by China, how Taiwanese identity has evolved across generations, and why Taiwan plays a critical role in the global economy — especially in technology, semiconductors, and public health.
If you’ve ever wondered what Taiwan is, why Taiwan matters, or why the Taiwan–China relationship is so complex, this episode gives you the context behind the headlines.

In the second half, things get even more personal—and fun. Christina shares her experiences dating Dutch, navigating cultural differences in relationships, and balancing life as a comedian abroad.
We also explore the Greek word Meraki (μεράκι)—a beautiful concept about putting love, soul, and creativity into everything you do—and how it shows up in her work, comedy, and daily life.
Funny, thoughtful, and very relatable.

Boba tea is a global phenomenon, but its story stretches back centuries.
This episode explores how Taiwan became a meeting point of global trade, tea, and culture — beginning with the Dutch East India Company’s role in connecting the island to global sugar markets in the 17th century, then Japanese colonization in early 20th century and to now international adored drinks.
Over time, tea cultivation, migration, and modernization shaped a uniquely Taiwanese approach to flavor: layered, adaptable, and precise. That philosophy eventually led to the invention of bubble tea in the 1980s — a drink that traveled easily across cultures and borders.
By linking colonial trade routes with contemporary food culture, this episode reveals how Taiwan transformed global exchange into a shared, everyday pleasure enjoyed around the world.
